NNEWI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY ELECTION:YPP WINS IN COURT AS TRIBUNAL NULLIFIES APGA'S ELODIMUO ELECTION, ORDERS RERUN IN EIGHT POLLING UNITS

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Awka has nullified the election of Hon Uche Elodimuo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). In its judgment, the court ruled that the declaration of Mr Uche Elodimuo as the winner of the 2023 Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency Election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is illegal, unconstitutional, null and void. The court also ordered INEC to conduct a supplementary election in eight of the Polling Units in Nnewi within ninety days. Hon Peter Uzokwe of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) dragged the APGA candidate and INEC to the Tribunal over alleged illegal cancellation of votes in Nnewi.

EEDC EXPLAINS REASON FOR POWER OUTAGE IN AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers in Awka, Anambra State, that the power outage currently being experienced is due to the loss of supply from its source of power at TCN Station, Onitsha, at about 6:53pm, yesterday. As a result of this development, all feeders under EEDC Awka district are out of power supply. TCN engineers are already patrolling the lines to ascertain the cause of power outage. We therefore apologise to our esteemed customers in Awka and appeal for their patience and understanding as we are on standby, hoping that issue is resolved and power restored within the shortest time possible.

Erling Haaland wins PFA Players’ Player of the Year

Erling Haaland has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Players’ Player of the Year after his extraordinary debut season helping City win a historic Treble. The City striker scored an incredible 52 goals in all competitions after a record-breaking first season at the Etihad.  Haaland broke the single-season Premier League goalscoring record in 2022/23 with 36 goals in just 35 games while his 44 goal involvements equalled the highest-ever total set by Thierry Henry.

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has opined that it is time to consider why democracies fail in African countries. Recall that the current coup plotters in Niger Republic had blamed rising insecurity and a lack of economic growth, stating that the intervention was necessary to avoid the gradual and inevitable demise of the country. However, in the case of Gabon, the military blamed the alleged fraudulent election that produced Ali Bongo as president. Speaking on behalf of the Gabonese people, the military officers expressed their determination to safeguard peace by ending the current regime that has lasted over 40 years. Davido Speaks After Performance At PFA Award Ceremony

Nigerian Singer Davido has thanked the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) for inviting him to perform at the awards ceremony on Tuesday. The 30-year-old took to the microblogging platform, X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, thanking the association and stating how music and sports go hand in hand. “Thank you @PFA for the opportunity to not only attend such a prestigious event but also perform. Music and sports have always gone great together and we proved that again last night!,”  he wrote. Davido performed the songs ‘ Unavailable’  and ‘ Feel It’  from his new album  Timeless  at the event. He is the first African artiste to perform at the PFA awards ceremony.

Top-up programme not for every HND holder – NBTE clarifies

The National Board for Technical Education says the new online top-up programme for Higher National Diploma holders to acquire a Bachelor’s Degree for one year, with foreign accredited universities, is meant for HND holders who want to pursue an academic career. The NBTE Head of Media Unit, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, offered the clarification in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday. Abubakar quoted the board’s Chief Executive, Prof. Idris Bugaje, saying the programme is not for all the HND holders but rather for those who have the ambition to further their career in an academic environment such as teaching and research in the Polytechnics or Universities. ”This top-up is an alternative to the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) offered by Nigerian Universities. ”In a democracy such as ours, HND holders should be allowed to make a choice between PGD and the top-up to BSc,” he said. Ogun Pastor Sets Lady On Fire During Special Prayer

  A 21-year-old lady identified as Sukura Owodunni has allegedly been set ablaze by a pastor, Taiwo Odebiyi, when he was trying to perform deliverance on her at his Cherubim and Seraphim Maberu Parish located in Offin in the Sagamu area of Ogun State. Nigerian Not ch   gathered that the incident happened on August 17, 2023, when the victim visited the church for a special prayer at the pastor’s invitation. Our correspondent further learnt that the pastor directed the victim to buy Amazing Grace perfume, local eggs and a candle for the special prayer. While praying for her, the pastor was said to have poured the perfume on the lady’s body and lit the candle.
