TRAGEDY IN NNEWI: 6 Killed, 4 Injured in Fatal Road Crash

A devastating road traffic crash occurred yesterday February 14, 2025, being Valentine's day near the Area Command Junction in Nnewi, Anambra State, resulting in the loss of six lives while leaving four others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash involved a black commercial Sino trailer with registration number UKP-540YP,, a white commercial Mercedes lorry with registration number ATN-279ZK and three motorcycles without registration numbers.  The trailer, which was fully loaded with cement, experienced brake failure while descending a hill at high speed, lost control, and collided with the Mercedes lorry.
It was gathered thatTl the trailer then crashed into a roadside shop, pushing the container shop into a nearby building. The crash involved six male adults, one female adult, and three female children. Two male adults, one female adult, and three female children lost their lives in the tragic incident, while as the time of filling this report one male adult and one female adult are still trapped inside the building. 

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Sector Command has however responded promptly to the crash, conducting an extrication and transferring the bodies of the deceased to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital,NAUTH Akamili Umudim  Nnewi. 

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, has also visited the crash scene and met with the owner of the house that was destroyed by the trailer. She offered her condolences and assured him that he would be kept informed as investigations progressed on the cause of the crash. 
Alexander also visited the surviving crash victims at the hospital and noted that their recovery was progressing well. She established contact to receive regular progress reports.

At the crash scene, FRSC Operatives engaged with Police to ensure the safe offloading and trans-loading of the consignment of cement bags, while the Sector Commander directed the deployment of the FRSC heavy-duty tow truck to be on standby to tow the trailer out of the crash scene.

She however stressed  that the Command will undertake all crash investigations and other procedures to ensure that the absconded driver and the owner of the trailer was found.

The Sector Commander however expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased victims and advised motorists to regularly service their vehicles to meet minimum safety standards before using the roads.

A notorious cult leader and the prime suspect in the brutal murder of the late Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashim, in the state, Gift Okpara, popularly referred to as 2Baba, has been reportedly killed in a police-led major security raid.
