In a bid to foster a positive relationship between law enforcement and the academic community, Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu paid a visit to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, and his management team.
The visit was aimed to promote cooperation and collaboration between the police and the university, with a focus on enhancing security in the area. CP Orutugu proposed the construction of a police post on land donated by the university management to curb criminal activities and provide a safer environment for students, faculty, and the surrounding community.
Accompanying CP Orutugu on the visit were Deputy Commissioner of Police Moses Gana, in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, and Assistant Commissioner of Police James Ihiabe, in charge of Operations.
Prof. Ikechebelu, who spoke on behalf of the management team or the university expressed gratitude to the police team and commended CP Orutugu's commitment to security. He also expressed confidence in the Commissioner's ability to tackle crime in Anambra State, particularly within the university community.
The Police Command seeks to achieve several goals through this initiative, through Intelligence gathering, building trust to enhance community confidence in law enforcement, accessing resources and joint initiatives, to address pressing security concerns.
