FRSC, NUPENG Join Forces to Curb Tanker Crashes in Anambra

In its bid to tackle the rising menace of tanker accidents in Anambra State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has partnered with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). This collaboration aims to find lasting solutions to tanker accidents and associated fatalities.

Sector Commander Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing tanker accidents during a meeting with NUPENG executives on February 28, 2025. She stressed the need for private truck owners to register their vehicles and ensure their drivers adhere to safety regulations.

Alexander also requested the Union to facilitate monthly public enlightenment sessions for their drivers. She agreed with NUPENG's proposal to establish truck parks, citing UN road traffic regulations.

NUPENG Chairman Mr. Izuchukwu Onaka highlighted poor road conditions as the primary cause of tanker accidents. He appealed to the government to prioritize road improvements and requested the FRSC to advocate for designated truck parks.

The meeting concluded with plans for a Town Hall meeting to discuss tanker-related incidents. Both the FRSC and NUPENG reiterated their commitment to improving road safety and reducing tanker accidents in Anambra State.
