In a significant development for the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie has been sworn in as the institution's 6th substantive Rector. The ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, marked the beginning of a new era for the polytechnic.
In her inaugural address, Dr. Awuzie outlined her vision for the institution, prioritizing anti-cultism, staff welfare, and academic excellence. She emphasized that cultism and its associated vices would have no place in the institution, and her administration would strengthen anti-cult measures by partnering with law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders.
Dr. Awuzie also assured staff that their welfare, training, and professional development would be top priorities. "We will foster an environment of inclusiveness, respect, and productivity, ensuring that every staff member finds fulfillment in his role," she said.
The new Rector's guiding principles for the next five years include human Resource Development, which will be to enhance staff welfare, including timely promotions, improved working conditions, and comprehensive welfare packages, Academic Reinvention and Programme Development, aimed at pursuing the boundaries of knowledge, innovation, and technological development.
She also emphasized about discipline, a situation that will ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful campus,whileFinancial transparency will be the Hallmark of her administration aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the institution's financial dealings.
In all, she did not leave the aspect of security, which she said would be to strengthen the institution's security narratives, aimed to protect staff and students in the Institution.
Dr. Awuzie thanked President Bola Tinubu, the polytechnic's governing council, and the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for their support and trust in her abilities.
With her wealth of experience and expertise in science and sustainability, Dr. Awuzie is poised to lead the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, to greater heights. Her appointment marks the beginning of a transformative era for the institution, and stakeholders, dignitaries, and well-wishers have expressed their support and prayers for her successful tenure.
