Anambra Police Foil Child Trafficking Attempt, Arrest Suspect

In a swift operation, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Joshua Simeon, from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, for attempting to traffic a five-year-old girl, Nkemdilim Jacob.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was made possible by credible information received by the Ogidi Area Command on February 1, 2025, at 4 pm. The suspect was apprehended at Nkpor Central Park, Idemili North Local Government Area, while attempting to flee with the child.

The police have revealed that the suspect had boarded a commercial vehicle and was en route to an unknown destination when he was arrested. The child, Nkemdilim Jacob, was allegedly taken away from her parents in Umuota Village, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to determine his motives and possible connections to a larger child trafficking network. Efforts are also underway to reunite the recovered child with her parents or relatives.

The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, combating child abduction and trafficking, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in the state.
