Ohaneze Ndigbo Presidency Election: A Crossroads for Ikwere people and Ndigbo

By Chigozie Igbo

As the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Presidency Election draws near, the Igbo community is faced with a critical decision. The controversy surrounding candidates like John Mbata, whose community has reportedly renounced their Igbo roots. This has raised concerns about the authenticity of their claims to be Igbo's or to be used to undermine the Igbo community.

In a surprising twist, Mike Okiro, a former Inspector General of Police, has been embroiled in an origin controversy, with allegations that he misrepresented his roots as a Rivers State indigene, while actually hailing from Imo State. This development has cast a shadow over his candidacy.

Meanwhile, Chief Fyneface Ndukwe Amaechi's profile continues to rise, as he secures endorsements from his community and beyond. The Etche people of Rivers State have thrown their weight behind his candidacy, recognizing his courage, foresight, and commitment to Igbo unity.

As the election approaches, Ndigbo must carefully consider their choice. Will they opt for a leader who embodies the values and identity of the Igbo people, or will external pressures and interests influence their decision? The outcome of this election will have far-reaching implications for the Igbo community and their future. So, it should not be left to the antics of a few politicians who wants to annex the Igbo Apex Organization. The time to review the proposals on the table is now. If, we as Igbo's allow those who have denounced us to rule us because it was zoned to them, then we must have ended up given them the room to insult us the more.

We saw delegates cash out today. That should not be an issue as it's also our money, but let the right thing be done. They should allow Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide to elect who will pilot their affairs tomorrow. They should in no way try to hoodwink the will of the people, because it will back fire.
