The leading aspirant for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ticket in the forthcoming Anambra South Senatorial by-election, Chief (Dr) Ebuka Onunkwo, has congratulated Comrade (Dr) Odogwu Emeka Odogwu on his re-election as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council.
In a congratulatory message, Chief Onunkwo described Comrade Odogwu as an inspirational leader and a dedicated journalist who has consistently made remarkable strides in community life, academic pursuits, and the media industry.
"Comrade Odogwu's re-election is a testament to his exemplary leadership and commitment to the noble profession of journalism," Chief Onunkwo noted, adding: "the Igbo saying that 'a man's name leads him' continues to resonate in Comrade Odogwu's life, with his numerous achievements setting him apart as a shining star in the media world."
Chief Onunkwo reaffirmed his unwavering support for the media, recognising the essential role journalism plays as "the oxygen of democracy." He reiterated his dedication to working alongside the NUJ and other media stakeholders to promote democratic values and good governance.
As part of this commitment, Chief Onunkwo, who was represented at the event by his Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Hon. Kamen Chuks Ogbonna, announced plans to host the newly elected executive of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, to discuss ways of strengthening their partnership and exploring avenues for collaboration.
Comrade Odogwu was re-elected as Chairman of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, on Thursday, 24 January 2025, following a keenly contested election in which he secured an overwhelming majority, winning by over 100 votes against his closest rival, Comrade Ngozi Obileri.
