Anambra State Police Command Records Notable Breakthroughs in Crime Reduction


The Anambra State Police Command has announced significant breakthroughs in its efforts to reduce crime and criminality in the state. According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, the command has recorded numerous successes in the past year, including the arrest of over 300 suspects, rescue of 14 kidnapped victims, and recovery of various arms and ammunition.

Some of the notable breakthroughs include:

Elimination of Masterminds: The command eliminated the masterminds behind the attack on police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Uruagu Nnewi.

Recovery of Arms and Ammunition: The command recovered over 100 different brands of arms, including AK47 rifles, pump action guns, and locally made pistols. Additionally, over 2,900 ammunition of various types were recovered.

Rescue of Kidnapped Victims: The command rescued 14 kidnapped victims unhurt and arrested several notorious kidnappers, including one Pablo, who had been terrorizing Ihiala, Anambra State, and other areas in Enugu and Delta States.

Destruction of Criminal Camps: The command destroyed several criminal camps, including one in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, which led to the recovery of 19 unexploded devices.

Arrest of Cultists: The command arrested several cultists, including two notorious cultists in Awka, who were found with a pump action gun, four live cartridges, cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs.

The command also rescued three children allegedly stolen from their parents in Bauchi State and sold to another in the state. Four suspects, including an illegal foster mother, were arrested in connection with the crime.

CP Nnaghe Obono Itam attributed the successes to the command's robust advocacy on community policing principles and the launch of "Operation Udo Ga Chi." He also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, and the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, for their guidance and support.

A notorious cult leader and the prime suspect in the brutal murder of the late Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashim, in the state, Gift Okpara, popularly referred to as 2Baba, has been reportedly killed in a police-led major security raid.
