Lagbaja: We Have Lost A Fine Officer - Akpabio

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has described the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, as a fine officer, who gave his all for the territorial security and unity of the country.

Akpabio said he received the news of the death of the late military chief with shock, few days after he had spoken with the president and was upbeat about his return to office.

A statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, quoted Akpabio saying, "I received the news of the death of the late Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, with shock. His death, coming at a time the country needed his wealth of experience in tackling and bringing to an end insecurity in some parts of the country, is a huge loss to the country and the security community.

" He was a fine, committed and dedicated officer, who served the country with all his might, even at the risk of paying the supreme price.

" On behalf of my family, the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I commiserate with the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON, the military community, the larger Lagbaja family on this great loss.

" I pray that Almighty Allah, grant his wife, children, colleagues and those who knew him, the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss and also grant the soul of the departed gallant officer Aljanah firdaus."

BREAKING: 2Baba Shot Dead In Rivers State

A notorious cult leader and the prime suspect in the brutal murder of the late Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashim, in the state, Gift Okpara, popularly referred to as 2Baba, has been reportedly killed in a police-led major security raid. The police and other security agencies were said to have conducted land and aerial raids at the identical hideout of the Iceland cult leader and his gang at Idu-Ekpeye in Ahoada East local government area of Rivers on Saturday, February 17. According to  The Nation , the Iceland cult leader was reportedly feared dead after the operation.   Recall that in September 2023, the late DPO was ambushed and captured by the cult group led by 2Baba in the Odiemudie community, Ahoada East LGA.   2Baba and his gang then took the DPO to the forest, where they killed him and dismembered his body. The cultists then filmed him. Another source, Obi, said he saw no less than 15 vehicles and an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) during the operation.

  The big celebration started with a High Mass lead by His Lordship Bishop Jonas Benson Okoye at St Vincent De Paul parish Uruagu Nnewi, in the mass were some dignitaries, amongst who were Dr Cletus Ibeto, His Royal Highness Igwe Kenneth Orizu ( Igwe Nnewi), Obi Uruagu his Highness Obi Charles Afamefuna Obi, Obi Nnewichi his Highness Obi George Onyekaba, Hon Chris Azubuogu, and among others. After the mass, the reception which was at Munic Classic Hotel where all dignitaries were entertained, Amb Charles Nwonye stayed briefly and left to visit and consult with the Umuada Anaedo Forum women at Obi Okpunoegbu to present his political ambition to the women.
