Imo State Set to Produce Next Ohanaeze Ndigbo President

Imo state is poised to produce the next president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization in the country. This development was confirmed by Chief Damian Okeke Ogene, the Vice President General of the organization from Anambra State. According to Okeke-Ogene, the position of the president is zoned to Imo State, following the death of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who did not complete his tenure.

While fielding questions from newsmen in Awka the state capital, he said that the leadership structure and election process for any position within Ohanaeze Ndigbo are clearly specified in the organization's constitution. Okeke-Ogene assured that Ohaneze Ndi Igbo remains intact and undivided, with no leadership crisis, despite Chief Iwuanyanwu's passing, creating a significant vacuum. The organization is now waiting for the Imo State chapter of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo to elect or appoint a replacement for the Ime-Obi, the highest decision-making body of the socio-cultural group.

Okeke-Ogene also used the opportunity to appeal to all organs of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo and other stakeholders to remain calm and allow the Ime-Obi to handle the situation peacefully. He urged the Federal Government to take proactive measures toward the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Okeke-Ogene noted that the present lip service on these issues is impeding the security of life and property in the Southeast region.

Furthermore, he urged the Southeast governors to collaborate more effectively to enhance security measures, improve crime-fighting efficiency, and ensure sustainability. Okeke-Ogene assured that Ohaneze Ndi Igbo is committed to protecting and promoting the collective interests of Ndigbo. The organization has played a crucial role in promoting Igbo culture and interests, and its new president will be expected to continue this tradition.
