.......Calls on Government to take decisive action against perpetrators
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Anambra state has condemned in strong terms, the massacre of innocent citizens that took place on sunday in Nibo community of Awka South LGA, Anambra state.
The horrific massacre, the party said has shaken Nibo community while leaving at least 13 people dead and many more injured.
In a press release made available to newsmen today in Awka, the Young Progressives Party through it's state publicity secretary,
Prince Oforbuike Okoli-Egbo, said that the party strongly condems the barbaric act, describing it as "senseless and evil".
The massacre occurred during the community's New Yam festival, known locally as the 'Nibo onwa asaa' festival, when assailants opened fire on festival-goers near the Oye Nwochichi Market and Nibo Old Maternity
The Young Progressives Party therefore urged the Executive Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to direct security agencies to unravel those behind the attack and declare an emergency on the overall security situation in Anambra.
"We call on the Governor, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of our citizens," said Prince Oforbuike Okoli-Egbo, State Publicity Secretary, stated.
The Young Progressives Party's demand for justice comes as the state grapples with an upsurge in cult-related killings. The party's strong stance on the issue reflects the growing concern among citizens about the escalating violence in the state.
As the investigation unfolds, the people of Nibo and Anambra State await justice for the victims and their families.
Recall, that the Anambra State Government yesterday pledged to pursue those responsible for the killings and has launched a manhunt for the attackers. The government has also called on members of the public to provide any relevant information that could facilitate arrests, guaranteeing confidentiality and a reward for useful tips.
