United Igbo Elders Council adopts Creation of Anioma state

...... Commends Senator Ned Munir Nwoko for championing it's creation

The Anioma Stakeholders Summit powdered by Senator Munir Nwoko, which was held on the 31st of August 2024 in Delta state had drawn a large crowd of dignitaries, elders, and stakeholders from across the region. The United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide (UNIEC) was well represented, and their leader, His Lordship Alpha Ikpeama, in a press release made available to newsmen by the protem Director, media and publicity highlighted on issues of the Stakeholders meeting and the position of the group going forward.

UNIEC used the opportunity to thank, H.E. Senator Ned Munir Nwoko for the patriotism, strategic foresight, energy and dedication and commitment to the realization of the Anioma dream. The group he said admires his efforts exceedingly, and stressed that they would continue to render whatever level and direction of support needed for the realization of the Anioma dream.

Furthermore the group stressed that they are aware of the patriotic legislative activism of the distinguished Senator in other vital areas of Nigerian national life, and assures him that the great admiration that Nigerians have for his efforts are also sinking into the grateful consciousness of all of them his closest brethren.

The group however used the opportunity of the stakeholders meeting in Asaba takes to remind Nigerians in general that Anioma is the single State recommended by the 2014 Constitutional Conference, and its creation as a constituent unit of the federal republic of Nigeria is a promise to be fulfilled by Nigeria to one of her loyal constituents, and which everyone would be grateful for.

The group also noted with satisfaction that "the creation of Anioma State will remove a lot of baggage from the present Delta State, and will establishe two instead of one pole of development in Delta, which will in turn make development nearer and faster on all sides, especially with a new State capital in or around Warri. So, an Anioma State is a win-win for all development-minded Deltans."

UNIEC is a body of non-sectarian patriotic Igbo elders committed to the unity of Nigeria on the principles of egalitarian justice, preferably in a properly restructured polity based on viable single ethnic nationality regions, side-by-side with viable multi-ethnic nationality regions; the number in each category to be determined by consensus.

"UNIEC throws her doors open to various Igbo and non-Igbo peoples, who on application may be admitted into membership either as elders or various categories of stakeholders, in light of their acceptance of the Vision and Mission of the UNIEC."

Justice Ikpeama however expressed UNIEC's gratitude to  Anioma people for their unwavering support of Senator Nwoko's efforts to create Anioma State. He commended Nwoko's dedication and strategic foresight, saying, "We admire his efforts exceedingly and will continue to support him in any way we can."

The UNIEC leader reminded the audience that the creation of Anioma state was not just a local issue but a promise made by Nigeria to its people. He noted that the 2014 Constitutional Conference had recommended the creation of Anioma State, and it was now time for that promise to be fulfilled.

Ikpeama emphasized that the creation of Anioma State would bring development closer to the people and establish two poles of development in Delta State. He thanked the press, Delta State people, and Nigerians who had supported the Anioma cause.

He maintained that it is  clear that the creation of Anioma state was not just a dream but a reality. The UNIEC's vision of a restructured Nigeria, with viable single ethnic nationality regions and multi-ethnic nationality regions, seemed within reach he explained.

The event ended with a sense of hope and optimism, as the stakeholders departed with a renewed commitment to making the Anioma State a reality. The UNIEC's doors were now open to all who shared their vision, and the future looked brighter than ever.
