Labour Party Crisis: Nenadi Usman’s Committee Holds First Meeting

The newly appointed Chairman of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee, Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, has expressed her commitment to revitalising the party amid its current challenges.

During yesterday’s inaugural meeting of the committee in Abuja, Nenadi emphasised the goal of transforming the Labour Party into a viable alternative for the Nigerian populace.

Senator Usman called upon committee members to demonstrate dedication and integrity in their roles, highlighting the importance of their work for both the party and the nation. “We are on a rescue mission for the Labour Party and our beloved Nigeria. The interest generated by this committee transcends party affiliations, presenting us with a significant responsibility,” she stated.

She assured that, with divine assistance, the Labour Party would emerge as a platform for all Nigerians who feel disenfranchised or dissatisfied with the current state of affairs.

Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate from the previous election, echoed these sentiments. Representing the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, he remarked on the ongoing economic crisis, asserting that the Labour Party had forewarned the public about potential disasters under the All Progressive Congress (APC) leadership. He expressed confidence that the Labour Party would build on its successes in the 2023 elections to secure a majority in the National Assembly and win the presidential election 2027.

Baba-Ahmed stated, “We faced challenges during our transition but managed to navigate them successfully, unlike any other party of our size could have. We are a formidable force in Africa, having fought for our 10 million votes, even if we were officially acknowledged for only 6 million.”

He lamented the nation’s current state, citing the mismanagement of resources, security issues, and rising hunger. He attributed these failures to the careless governance that followed the Labour Party’s electoral victories.

The event also featured remarks from Hon. Ikechukwu Emetu, the deputy governor of Abia State. Representing Governor Alex Otti, Emetu urged committee members to focus on the Labour Party’s growth and avoid actions that could harm its interests.

Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the committee’s secretary, assured that they would diligently work to elect officers at various party levels within their time frame. “We have already begun this process and are committed to conducting thorough outreach and consultation to ensure that capable leaders are elected from the grassroots up to the national convention,” he concluded.
