Ending Politics in Security: Citizens Must Take Ownership of Their Environment - Chief Nwizugbe

The community policing committee for Otolo Nnewi division in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra state was  recentl inaugurated by SP Sunday Ochongwu, the divisional police officer of the division. The inauguration is in line with the directive of the Inspector Generals of Police and the CP Itam, who saw the need to implement the act as enshrined in law, to help curtail crime and criminal activities in the country. There is no gain stating the fact that security of a nation is paramount, and it's time to put aside politics and prioritize the safety of citizens.

While interacting with newsmen after their inauguration, Chief Eugene Okechukwu Okonkwo Isugugbe said that "for too long, security has been entangled in political agendas, hindering effective solutions. It's crucial to recognize that security is a collective responsibility, not a partisan issue. He commended the police for removing the aspect of politics towards ensuring that there is peace in Nnewi North LGA, starting with Otolo Nnewi Division. 

While interacting with newsmen the divisional police officer of Otolo police station, SP Sunday Ochongwu said that citizens must wake up and take ownership of their environment to ensure their safety. This involves:

He described community policing, as a method for collaboration with local law enforcement to identify and address security concerns.


He said that Neighborhood watch when established through volunteer groups would monitor and report suspicious activities, as well as Intelligence Sharing, which will.in turn provide valuable information to security agencies to prevent crimes.

He stressed that civic education promotes security awareness and as well educates others on preventive measures.

He stressed that to ensure that political barriers are broken, security needs to be depoliticized, while separating security from political interests and focus on solutions.


He also encouraged bipartisan cooperation to foster collaboration among political parties to address security challenges, as well as support security agencies to provide adequate resources and training for security personnel.

He therefore called on citizens, community leaders, and policymakers to unite to in prioritizing security and also help make security a top priority, transcending political affiliations.

The DPO while inaugurating the  divisional community policing committee in the division thanked Otolo Nnewi community for their support that made the development to be possible. He also commended the Commissioner of Police of the state C.P Itam, for his proactive measures to see to it that the community which is the microcosm gets the needed attention. He said that the community policing is higher because of the responsibility they are saddled with. He promised to work with all stakeholders in the community to ensure that the security of lives and property is guaranteed.

BREAKING: 2Baba Shot Dead In Rivers State

A notorious cult leader and the prime suspect in the brutal murder of the late Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashim, in the state, Gift Okpara, popularly referred to as 2Baba, has been reportedly killed in a police-led major security raid. The police and other security agencies were said to have conducted land and aerial raids at the identical hideout of the Iceland cult leader and his gang at Idu-Ekpeye in Ahoada East local government area of Rivers on Saturday, February 17. According to  The Nation , the Iceland cult leader was reportedly feared dead after the operation.   Recall that in September 2023, the late DPO was ambushed and captured by the cult group led by 2Baba in the Odiemudie community, Ahoada East LGA.   2Baba and his gang then took the DPO to the forest, where they killed him and dismembered his body. The cultists then filmed him. Another source, Obi, said he saw no less than 15 vehicles and an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) during the operation.  

Prominent Leaders Pay Tribute to Late Sen Ifeanyi Ubah, at Anambra Community Candlelight Procession in Awka
