By Chigozie Igbo

Rivers state, the treasure base of Nigeria has been in the news lately and had at a time dominated all political discussions in the country, because of the unsettling crisis that has emanated from the oil rich state. However, the state no doubt boasts of very strong political figures, who have helped shape the destiny of the state. Today, my focus would be on the person of Senator Magnus Ngei Abe. A one time Senator, from Rivers State, who represented Rivers South East Senatorial District. Senator Magnus Ngei Abe was born on the 24th of May 1965, a Nigerian politician and lawyer. He was first elected to the Nigerian Senate in 2011 at the April 2011 Federal elections and again in a rerun poll of December 2016.

Senator Magnus Ngei Abe is a highly respected and influential political figure in Rivers State politics, known for his exceptional leadership qualities, vision, and contributions to the state's development. He has been a major player in shaping the political landscape of Rivers State and has earned a reputation as a champion of democracy, a leader of unimpeachable integrity, and a unifying force.

Over the years he has displayed exceptional leadership qualities. Senator Abe has demonstrated remarkable leadership skills, guiding various initiatives and organizations with wisdom and foresight, as a lawyer, community leader and a politician who represented Rivers South East Senatorial District at the Red Chamber in Abuja. His vision for Rivers State has a clear and compelling direction which is hinged on peace, prosperity, and development, this recently played out with his reconciliation with the former governor of Rivers State, H E Nyesom Wike, who is now, the minister of the FCT.

Senator Abe's Integrity is characterized by honesty, transparency, and accountability, earning him the trust and respect of his peers and the people of Rivers State, not just his party the APC. He has become the unifying Force in Rivers politics, with the live and let's live philosophy driving his vision. It's on record however that Senator Abe has worked tirelessly to bring people together, promoting unity and understanding among diverse ethnic and political groups, of which the Igbo's in Rivers state can testify to.

His dedication to public service can't be overemphasized, this is so, as he has served with distinction in various capacities, as a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Information, and Senator that represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District. As the commissioner for information in the administration of H.E, Sir Peter Odili he was instrumental at ensuring that the attributes being given to Rivers state as the treasure base of the country was showcased. As the secretary to the government of Rivers State under H.E Chibuike Amaechi he also did well to the glory of God. He has always being in the corridors of government and has remained constant as the northern stars till date.

His impact on Rivers politics can't be overlooked, as he has helped shape the political landscape of the state. Senator Abe's influence has significantly impacted the political trajectory of Rivers state, as he has inspired a new generation of leaders, with his leadership qualities. His leadership and vision have as well inspired a new generation of leaders to emulate his example, which is anchored on fostering unity and cooperation, driven by the philosophy of live and lets live. His efforts have promoted unity and cooperation among diverse groups, contributing to a more harmonious political environment.

Overall, Senator Magnus Abe is an iconic figure in Rivers state politics, renowned for his exceptional leadership qualities, vision, and contributions to the development of the state.

Senator Abe's return to the All Progressive Congress (APC) after a brief stint with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is a strategic realignment and desire to contribute to the progress of Rivers State, by connecting directly with the center.
As a co-founder of the APC in Rivers State and having served in various capacities, including as a Senator, Commissioner for Information, and Secretary to the State Government. He is well positioned for the task of leadership, that will likely present itself in future.

Senator Abe's political significance, and relevance in Rivers state can't be wished away, as he has been in every government in the state since 1999. Senator Abe's return to the APC has been met with both intrigue and commendation, reigniting discussions about his significance in the political landscape of Rivers State, that notwithstanding, he is seen as a valued asset to the party and the state.

His reconciliation efforts have also yielded results as fellow political stakeholders in the state, have thus far aligned with him, thus prioritizing the collective good over personal grievances. This move has been hailed as a mark of statesmanship and comradeship by an experienced political juggernaut, but yet a humble politician, which he is. Indeed, Senator Abe's inclination to the live and let's live philosophy and ideology is fast gaining traction in Rivers State, which is the panacea needed for the much talked about sustainable and real development.
