Anambra Command Gets New CP, Restates Commitment to Combatting Crime



A new commissioner of police has resumed office in Anambra Police Command, in the person of CP Adeoye. The commissioner of police in his first interaction with members of the press in the state, restated the commitment of the force to combat crime and criminal elements in the state. He however, warned that it will never be business as usual, as the police command under his watch will ensure that Anambra is peaceful for the citizens to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation. 


He however used the opportunity to highlight the efforts of the police command in combating crime in the state in less than 24hrs of his assumption of office. 


According to the CP, in the late hours of Tuesday 11/7/2023 by 8:13 pm, the police in collaboration with Anambra state vigilante at Ichida bus stop along the Ichida- Igboukwu expressway, rescued a kidnap victim, demobilized two members of the notorious gang and recovered one Ak47 rifle, two pump action guns, two Ak47 magazines, thirty- two live ammunition, and one highlander jeep belonging to the victim.


Preliminary information however revealed that the deadly gang of eight operating with two vehicles, a Grey Highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350, abducted the victim in her Ash Highlander jeep.The victim was however rescued unhurt she has been debriefed.


The Commissioner also informed the press that, “On 11/7/2023 by 8:30 pm, the joint security Operatives attached to Forward Operating Base FOB while on patrol around Uga- Ezinifite Expressway in an attempt to stop two vehicles that drove suspiciously to beat security screening, a highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350 without plate number, was given a hot chase by the joint forces. The Operatives engaged the deadly gang in a gun battle and they abandoned the two vehicles and took to their heels.


“ A search conducted inside the vehicle, produced two automatic pump action guns, eleven (11) live cartridges, and a bag containing one walkie-talkie, one cell phone, and other incriminating items were recovered from them. 


“Further information also showed evidence of blood stains on all the vehicles as they have escaped with bullet wounds. The Command therefore used the opportunity to call on operators of public and private hospitals to admit but report anyone with a bullet wound or related injuries to the nearest Police Station.


Continuing, CP Adeoye, warned the criminals and criminal elements in the state to change their ways and cue into the State Government's Opportunities by engaging in legitimate means of survival or be prepared to face discomfort in their criminal/ illegal activities, as he is not in the habit of asking them to relocate,but rather be ready to meet their creator if they failed to turn a new leaf. He commended the state government efforts in seeing to it that the citizens of Anambra state are gainfully employed and asked them to look for legitimate source of income and avoid crime in all ramifications.


The CP however commended the efforts of the men and officers of the Anambra command for their gallantry, and asked them to keep up with it, as under his watch he will ensure that fine officers are rewarded for their efforts while the bad eggs within the force will be fished out. He went on to inform the general public that the DPO of B Division Awka who was alledeged to have been working against the ethics and mode of code of the force have been redeployed while investigation is on going to come to the root of the issues raised as a new DPO had been put in his stead. He said " under my watch the police in Anambra will work on it's mandate to restore peace, and not to extort the people and any officer found wanting will be made to face the consequences therein".


On the issue of Monday sit at home, the new Commissioner of Police stressed that, the duty of the police is to provide security, and to safe guard the lives and property of the citizens, but however arrved that it's incumbent on the citizens to choose to go to work or their businesses or sit at home as it's their fundamental rights, but stressed that the police will continue to maintain law and order especially on monday's without fear or favour.
