The Government of Imo State is saddened by the death on Monday, April 17th, of a 15 month old baby, Master Dominion Chisom Ugochukwu.
Information reaching Government suggests that the baby who was strapped at the back of the mother was killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC).
Government completely deplores the killing of such an innocent baby, the circumstances notwithstanding. Our heart therefore goes to the parents of the baby, especially the mother who alone understands the pains of such a tragic and monumental loss.
Consequently, as a responsive and responsible Government sworn to the protection of lives and property of citizens of Imo State, His Excellency, Sen Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State, has ordered a comprehensive and holistic investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Baby Dominion Chisom Ugochukwu.
Government therefore urges the aggrieved parents of baby Chisom to exercise restraint and await the outcome of the investigation.
While extending the sincere condolences of the government to the bereaved family , His Excellency, the Governor, wishes to assure them that justice would not only be done on the matter but seen to have been done.
