The National Link Chapel of the Anambra state council of Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ) has condemned the recent assassination attempt on the person of Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah over the weekend. They expressed dissatisfaction over the insecurity situation in the state, describing it as an unfortunate situation in the state.
In a communique after their monthly meeting held at the chapel head office, in Nnewi. Mr. Tempest Udeze who is the chairman of the Chapel made public the resolution to the members of the chapel and held a moment of silence for those that lost their lives in the attack. He stated that," sunday's attack on Senator Ubah is unacceptable and it's the responsibility of every government to protect lives and property of the common masses. Anything short of that is unacceptable to the society".
He commend the efforts of Governor Prof Charles Soludo in the area of security in the state and blamed the collapse of security in the state on the past administration, while urging the governor to step up the security apparatus in the state. He lamented a situation where hoodlums could lay ambush and spend time there before the arrival of the distinguished Senator, without being nabbed, which he said showed that there is a gap in the security apparatus in the state.
The Chairman of the chapel however commended Prof Soludo on the measures he has put in so far to thicken the security apparatus in the state and asked him to up the antee. "In as much as we talk about the insecurity, we must commend him in other areas he has improved on".
"So that is the position of this chapel and we encourage the governor to do more. We equally thank God for the safety of Senator Ubah in as much as we regret the loss of lives on the part of his personal and security aides, which is so painful and we extend our condolences to the families of the deceased by asking God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss", he concluded.
