Journalists Decry Bad Condition Of Roads In Nnewi

Journalists practicing in Anambra State have called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to arrest the poor state of roads in and around the industrial town of Nnewi.

The media practitioners under the aegis of the National Link Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra Council made the call in a Communique  issued after their meeting on Aug. 24.

The Chapel in the communique signed by Mr Tempest Ude, its chairman, condemned the total neglect of all the roads in Nnewi North inclusive of Federal, State and Local Government roads in the area.

It said the poor state of roads in Nnewi was affecting trade and commercial activities which Nnewi was known for negatively.

The Chapel said so much man hour was lost to gridlock while so much money was lost to vehicle maintenance.

The chapel however commended individuals who have been sand filling the numerous potholes in the city.

The Journalists appealed to the state government, federal government and all relevant agencies saddled with the responsibility of maintaining the road infrastructure to urgently intervene and reduce the suffering of residents of the industrial town.

This is said would help Nnewi maintain its status as the Japan of Africa.

The Chapel condemned the resurgence of kidnapping in Nnewi and its environs, noting that it had affected business and the psyche of the people living in the industrial city adversely.

“We call on  the security agencies to rise to the occasion by combating crime and criminal behavior in Nnewi and beyond,” it stated.
