DEEPENING DEMOCRACY THROUGH STAKEHOLDERS COLLABORATION: THE UZODIMMA'S EXAMPLE

On Saturday, December 18, 2021, the Governor of Imo State, most Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, will hold a special interactive meeting with all the newly elected, ward, local government areas, and state officers of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imo State, at the Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu's Square (Former Heroes' Square, Owerri), by 10 am. This will be the first of it's kind since the emergence of Hon. Macdonald Kelechi Ebere's led state executive committee of the party.

Recall that in his inaugural speech as Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma said: "My government shall be a faithful covenant between the people and the government...Every Imo person shall have a say in government and shall be so recognized."

In keeping with the foregoing avowal, Governor Uzodimma, has made interactive engagements with Imo people, an essential policy of his administration.

So far, series of such meetings have taken place including the bipartisan stakeholders meetings, the engagement with stakeholders from the 27 local government areas of the State and the recent meeting with Interim Management Committee Chairmen, traditional rulers, councillors and other stakeholders from the local government areas of the state.

The meeting which held at the Sam Mbakwe Executive Chamber, Government House was called to get input of leaders from the local level towards identifying critical infrastructural needs and priorities of various communities.

It is obvious that Governor Uzodimma is a grassroots man given his proven love for the rural areas. As an advocate of political inclusiveness, the governor has built a political process that shifts as much decision-making authority as possible to the grassroots level.

This is buttressed by the recent Imo Government's approval of 50 development centres across the State, in order to bring the government closer to the people and ensure accelerated development of the rural areas of the State.

Indeed, it takes only a visionary leader like Governor Uzodimma to realize the importance of inclusiveness in the process of building a strong political party and ultimately a great state with robust economy and assured prosperity.

The interactive meeting on Saturday is crucial given the need to consolidate on the gains of the APC in the State especially after the successful ward, local government and state congresses that have been adjudged nation-wide as most peaceful and well-organized.

Furthermore, the Saturday interactive meeting will afford the party leaders across levels an opportunity to contribute their own quota in the efforts to re-engineer the All Progressives Congress in the State for greater glory and also to key into the sound vision of the shared prosperity agenda of the Uzodimma led administration.

It is hoped that the meeting on Saturday, which is historic and epochal  will be a huge success and usher in an enduring breath of fresh air in the party  and state.
