_--- As Senator attracts and commissions a block of classrooms, other social interventions in Ukpo community_
The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife PhD, on Friday July 16, 2021, paid a courtesy visit to the clan head of Dunukofia Ancient Kingdom and Eze Ukpo in Dunukofia, HRM Igwe Dr Robert C Eze, Okofia VI.
The glamorous event which was graced by members of the Igwe's cabinet and many prominent sons and daughters of the Ukpo community was preceded by the commissioning of a block of classrooms built by the Senator at Community Secondary School, Ukpo.
Speaking at the gathering, Ekwunife who had in the past few months embarked on massive commissioning of projects across the senatorial district described the Ukpo community as a community rich in culture and heritage.
The performing lawmaker while recalling that Ukpo was the first community she attracted a project when she was member of house of representatives, thanked the community for their unflinching support, particularly in the last general election.
Responding, the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Robert Eze conveyed a message of appreciation through the Principal Secretary & Chairman Ukpo Ceremonies Committee Ichie Sir Izuchukwu Nwabueze and presented to the Distinguished Senator by the Ichie Emma Ogbuka Deputy leader of Cabinet.
They thanked Senator Uche Ekwunife for the construction of an ultramodern classroom block and other social interventions in the community. The monarch stated that the grassroots friendly lawmaker has distinguished herself as a people-oriented politician and friend of the Ukpo community. He prayed and wished the Senator success in all her endeavors.
Earlier, while commissioning the classroom block, Ekwunife recalled that she promised to not only be a strong voice on the floor of the Senate but attract developmental projects to every community in the zone. She stated that Ukpo secondary school is one of the forty schools that has benefited from her representation in the 9th National Assembly.
Continuing, the Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology who equally donated educational materials to the school stated that she also erected a perimeter fence in the school in her bid to ensure a conducive environment and improved security in the college. She assured that she will continue to do more in promoting the quality of education in the society.
While decrying the level of insecurity in the country, the quintessential federal lawmaker charged the Government of Anambra state to embark on immediate fencing of all the government owned schools as means of improving security in schools in the state.
On his part, the President General of the community, Chief Chukwuemeka Chukwuka who was represented by Sir Chukwudi Nwasinaoke thanked Ekwunife, assuring her of the community's continuous support and prayers as she discharges her mandate.
Expressing her profound happiness, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Ngozi Rita Egbutu expressed gratitude to the Senator for the project, adding that it came when it was highly needed. The Principal who noted that their plea for an additional block of classrooms reached the ears of Ekwunife stressed that it will take care of the increasing population of the school.
In his remarks, the Senior Prefect of the school, Master Paschal Makachi who spoke on behalf of the students thanked Ekwunife who he described as students friendly for the project, adding that the gesture has encouraged them to be more serious with their studies.
Present were, former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Anambra State, Professor Stella Okunna, Immediate-past PDP LGA Chairman, Chigbo Dibiaezue, the Chairman Ukpo ceremonies committee, Sir Izuchukwu Nwabueze, Chairman Cabinet committee on political matters, Ichie Hon John Olibie, Cabinet Secretary, Ichie Nwachukwu Okonkwo, Ichie Elias Anyaeji, Prince Ike Dick Eze, members of the Ukpo Improvement Union, former PDP youth leader Ukpo ward 3, Austin Oranu, former PDP Chairman ward 3, Victor Okeke amongst others.
On the Senator's entourage were a former Commissioner for women affairs, Lady Henrietta Agbata, former Chairman ASUBEB, Dr. Rose Nwankwo, former Accountant General of Anambra state, Mrs. Helen Nwaeri, Popular Nollywood Star Actress, Rita Edochie amongst others.
