Former governor of Imo State, Chief Sir, Dr. Godson Ikedi Ohakim has formally joined the All Progressives Congress APC.
The Isiala Mbano born administrator and politician since his last outing at the 2019 General Elections, has choosen to watch from the sidelines.
However there has been pressure on the former governor to join a political party, as he has remained apolitical since 2019, right from the brief era of Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, and the Senator Hope Uzodinma APC government.
The leadership of the APC in the state, led by the State Party Chairman, Chief Marcon Nlemigbo, had paid the former governor a visit at his residence at Prefab in Owerri recently, to appeal to him to join the party.
Ohakim had been silent over his intentions, and kept his decision to join the APC a close guarded secret, known only to himself.
With his entrance into the party, there is belief that the party would be further strengthened in Okigwe zone, where the party haven’t been doing very well in recent times.
Ohakim is a close friend of the govenror of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, contesting in 2003, as his deputy, before himself becoming govenror in 2007.
The seasoned technocrat, has been rated Imo’s best govenror after the late Chief Sam Mbakwe, and was recognised in same regards, by the former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, as well as the Catholic Archbishop AJV Obinna.
His move to the APC will come with a lot of advantage and experience, to the Hope Uzodinma administration. Ohakim was govenror of Imo State from 2007 till 2011.
