Principals of Unity Schools Holds 2020 AGM

The minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has harped on the need for principals of Federal Unity Schools in the country to remind steadfast, in restructuring the educational system, especially during these trying times in the country. The minister made the appeal during the 2020 annual general meeting of principals of Federal unity colleges today at Chida Hotels, at  Jabi in Abuja.


The theme of this year's meeting, "Restructuring our Educational system," the minister said is apt, going by the fact that it has become imperative at ensuring that quality education is delivered to maximize student performance, towards achieving conformity to the social needs of the country.



He went on to state that, the present system which his ministry is envisioning for learning in the country, is to ensure that education is modified by reforming learning, curriculum and pedagogy, to keep in tune with modern and global best practices. He stressed that government is making concerted efforts to deliver education, in line with President Buhari's Nine point agenda, which places importance on the quality of education.  


He tasked the Principals to brace up to their responsibilities, with the sole aim of returning our colleges as centres of excellence, which was the visioyof the founding fathers, as they the Principals owe it as a duty to teach, groom and nuture the children towards achieving the expected behavioural changes, despite the challenges facing the educational system in the country.


Continuing, the minister said that the government places emphasis on easy access to quality education, which is geared at resting the priorities, targets programmes and strategies of major players in the sector, targeted at quality education for all Nigerians.


He said that " to further achieve the objectives of quality education for all, we need the collective support, co operation and sincere commitment of all the key players, especially you the Principals of the FUCs".


He however commended the Federal government for the establishment of six more federal science and technical colleges (FSTCS) across the country, which he said will go a long way in promoting entrepreneurial skills for self reliance in the country.


The minister therefore assured them that the government is committed to addressing the many challenges facing most of the Federal Unity Schools and educational sector in general, so that the issues of poor management/leadership style, inadequate staff welfare,poor academic performance, inadequate funding, resulting in dilapidated furniture and unfinished projects will become a thing of the past. He however urged them to be good ambassadors of the Federal ministry of education in their various states, so that the ministry will not be brought to disrepute. He wished they well in there deliberations towards achieving the much desired results in respositioning federal unity schools in the country.


The AGM of Federal Unity Schools Principals is an event that provides principals the opportunity to take stock of activities in Federal Unity Colleges annually and how to proffer solutions on delivering quality education to millions of Nigerians.

BREAKING: 2Baba Shot Dead In Rivers State

A notorious cult leader and the prime suspect in the brutal murder of the late Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashim, in the state, Gift Okpara, popularly referred to as 2Baba, has been reportedly killed in a police-led major security raid. Prominent Leaders Pay Tribute to Late Sen Ifeanyi Ubah, at Anambra Community Candlelight Procession in Awka
