Former Governor of Imo, Chief, Sir Godson Ikedi Ohakim, has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, to withdraw the multiple criminal charges filed against him by the Nigeria police force.
The former governor made the request via a petition, titled ” Re: Unlawful and Malicious Prosecution, Harassment, Intimidation, Defamation and False Information against Dr. Ikedi Ohakim at the behest of Ms Chinyere Amuchienwa -Igwegbe.
Chief Ohakim in the petition called for a comprehensive investigation of all the issues that gave rise to the multiple charges against him.
He specifically drew the attention of IGP, Mohammed Adamu, to the two charges filed against him at the High Court, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Abuja division of the Federal High Court as well.
The charges marked FCT/HC/CR/993/2020 and FHC/ABJ/CS/287/2020 bordered on alleged false information and alleged publishing nude pictures of the nominal complainant, Ms Chinyere Amuchienwa-Igwegbe.
Ohakim through his counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, referred the IGP to his petition of January 20th, 2020 wherein, he complained about assault on his person by Ms. Chinyere Amuchienwa-Igwegbe (hereafter: “Ms Igwegbe or Amuchienwa”) at a hotel in Abuja and other unlawful acts by her towards his client, Chief Ikedi Ohakim.
The former Governor is however, demanding the prosecution of Chinyere Amuchienwa as stated in the contents of his petition by his counsel to the IGP, which reads that “the contents of the said Petition were clear, precise and unambiguous and our client had then, at the request of the Police, subsequently submitted credible evidence to support said Petition.
The letter states that, “the complaint of our client was still under investigation by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Federal Investigation Bureau (FIB), in connection with which our client and Ms.Amuchienwa was interviewed several times at the office of DIG – FIB when on 7th September, 2020, the Special Tactical Squad of the same FIB extended a new invitation to our client over a fresh Petition brought by Ms Igwegbe on the same matter.
He therefore asked the IGP to conduct a comprehensive investigation on the matters raised so that justice will be done in it's true sense.
Recall, that there is a pending summons for hearing between Ms Chinyere Amuchienwa Igwegbe and the ex governor, which is billed for the 15th of February 2021 at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
