The Member representing Nnewi Federal consituency made up of Nnewi North, Nnewi South & Ekwusigo Local Government Areas at the House of Representatives, Hon Chris Emeka Azubogu has finally declared his intention to contest for Anambra State governorship coming on the 6th of November 2021, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during the occasion , Hon. Chris Azubogu said that he has carefully observed the political climate in Anambra and is convinced that he has all it takes to bring positive change in the state.
He passionately appealed for the support of the party members to make his guber aspiration a reality.
He further stated that his aspiration to occupy Agu Awka has the support of more than 7 governors of his party the PDP, and maintained that all it takes for him to win the Guber election in the state was to be given the ticket of PDP.
He said " some people have been dropping names; claiming that they know this or that person some say they have the support of this or that person; but there intention is to be considered for the ticket of the party. I don't drop mames, and don't make unnecessary claims."
"But I want to assure our great party in Anambra that I am ready for the battle for Agu Awka. I am ready to lead PDP to victory;if given the ticket. I am not begging the party to make me governor,or win election for me;,all I ask for is for our great party to give me the platform. Once that is done, then drop your bills. As I have the backing of no fewer than 7 PDP governors and that of majority of Nnewi and Anambra stakeholders."
The governorship aspirant said that his signature projects are in almost every local government area of the state because of his passion to transform Anambra state.
Hon Azubogu further stated that he would conduct Anambra State Local Government election in just six months if he makes it to Agu Awka.
He however decried the level of infrastructural decay in Anambra State which he attributed to crass failure of the political class to create a system that will produce governors who are equipped to develop the state.
"Go to Rivers, Delta, Lagos, Abia and Enugu State, they have developed working system that makes it practically impossible for an outsiders to produce the governor, but regretted that the reverse is the case in Anambra State where the system throws up individuals who have not gotten enough experience in governance. It is only people who know it that will always feel it." He noted.
Continuing, Hon. Chris Azubogu stated that, "PDP is approaching the coming Anambra governorship election from a disadvantaged angle. First, APGA, as a ruling party in the state, won't be easy to unseat. They will fight hard to retain the government house. Again, the APC, which is also participating in the November 6 election, has the federal power to draw from. During the 2017 governorship election in Anambra, APGA won; APC came second; but PDP occupied the third position. Therefore, the coming election will be tough for our party.
"We need a person, who has the capacity, contact and the wherewithal to confront candidates of these parties. I have what it takes to lead our party to the government house, if given the platform.
"My intention is to lead PDP to the Anambra government house. I also have the blueprint on how to retain PDP in power for 24 years. If, by the grace of God, I get PDP ticket and become governor, I will conduct council election within 6 months, in order to consolidate our party at all levels of governance.
"Again, we must understand that election is a process; not an event. There are chains of activities that will finally culminate into the election proper. In all these processes, we need people. Therefore, we need aggressive membership drive. We also need to institute reconciliation committee, because, we are going into an election, and we need people to win the election. It is not enough to ask aggrieved members to withdraw cases from court. We must be thorough in what we are doing; because, the coming election is a must win for PDP."
Reacting the state Chairman of PDP in the state, Hon. Nwobu assured party faithful that a level playing ground must be provided for all aspirants during party primary in the state.
