FG confirms PUNCH report, says 10 new coronavirus cases in Abuja, Lagos

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the Federal Ministry of Health have confirmed an exclusive report by The PUNCH as regards the existence of three new cases of COVID-19 in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The NCDC said on Twitter that the patients had been quarantined. The ministry said seven other cases were recorded in Lagos State. The statement read in part, “The Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed 10 new cases of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria. Three new cases in the Federal Capital Territory and seven new cases in Lagos State. “This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 22. All 10 new cases are Nigerian nationals. Nine of them have travel history to Canada, France, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. “They returned to the country in the last one week. The 10th case is a close contact of a previously confirmed case. The three cases in the FCT are being treated at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada...

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was the first to announce the cancellation of pilgrimage to the kingdom over the fear of Corona Virus. The virus is not a respecter of any stone throwing at the devil. It will consume both the stone and the person throwing it. The virus is the known devil and it’s not respecter of anything. Kenny Rogers, dies at 81

American singer and actor, Kenny Rogers, has died from natural causes, his family has announced. He was 81. His family announced in a statement on Saturday that the three-time Grammy winner “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family.” THE ROGERS FAMILY IS SAD TO ANNOUNCE THAT KENNY ROGERS PASSED AWAY LAST NIGHT AT 10:25PM AT THE AGE OF 81. COVID-19: Former INEC chair Iwu to head committee in Imo

Former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman Prof. Maurice Iwu has been appointed the chairman of the nine man committee set up by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma yesterday. COVID-19: NUJ suspends States/Chapels’ Meetings Nationwide

With the spread of Corona virus to more individuals in the country  the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has directed that Congresses/meeting at State and Chapel levels of the Union be suspended till further notice. In a Press Statement, the National Secretary of NUJ, Shuaibu Usman Leman, the Union said with the present situation, it has become imperative the union takes steps to safeguard members across the 37 Councils nationwide. “The Coronavirus pandemic has continued to spread despite efforts by governments at different levels to contain it. “Already about eight cases have been confirmed while several unconfirmed cases are still springing up across states,” the Union said. “All large gatherings should also be suspended, while journalists should ensure they maintain social distancing and high personal hygiene within this period. Our son and former skipper of the Super Eagles John Mikel Obi was a "victim" of Covid-19. He did not contact the deadly virus....but got into trouble for speaking his mind and those of hundreds others out there in Turkey. His club Trabzonspor frowned at his comment and asked him to retract his statement but Mikel refused on ground that he did the right thing. Oshiomhole presents Ajimobi to Buhari as new APC deputy chairman

COVID-19: keep distance to stem spread, NOA urges NigeriansP

National Orientation Agency (NOA) Thursday called on Nigerians to maintain social distance from each other so as to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the country. Nasarawa State Director of NOA, Priscilla Alu made the call in Akwanga Local Area of Nasarawa State during a Town Hall meeting organised by Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and NOA. According to the NOA director, the call was necessitated by the increasing cases of coronavirus around the globe and the need to step up efforts to curtail further spread of the virus. The director said that if Nigerians maintain distance from each other, it does not mean hatred but is aimed at preventing and protecting people from being infected. Appeal court reverses Ifeanyi Ubah’s sacking as Senator

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday reversed the judgment of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that sacked Ifeanyi Ubah as a Senator. The FCT high court on Thursday, April 11, 2019, removed Ubah as Senator for Anambra South senatorial district. But a three-man panel of the court, led by Justice Stephen Adah said the judgment was given without jurisdiction Justice Adah said Ubah was denied fair hearing by the FCT High Court and ruled that the certificate forgery case against Ubah was a nullity. The judge said the record of proceedings before the FCT High Court showed that there was no evidence that Ubah was served with processes in relation to the case. Justice Adah stated that the originating summons of the case which was heard before the FCT High Court was not signed by any lawyer as required by the Rules of the High Court of the FCT. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Adams Oshiomhole, sang a conciliatory tune on Tuesday when he enjoined his colleagues in the National Working Committee to put the interests of Nigerians first. FG suspends $22.7bn borrowing plan

The federal government has suspended its $22.7 billion external borrowing plan, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, announced on Monday, Premium Times has has revealed.
