2020 World Environment Day, Targets Unsustainable Human Activities Reduction, Says Imo Commissioner for Environment 


The Imo State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ikechukwu Njoku, has hinted that this year's world environment day, primarily targets the reduction of unsustainable human activities with negative effects on the environment. 

Dr Njoku disclosed this recently, while speaking to newsmen on the factors that could guarantee a sustainable human environment.

He pointed out that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is a leading voice on the environment, which provides and encourages partnership in caring for nature by inspiring  and enabling nations to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

He noted that the  theme of this year's world environment day is "Biodiversity ", adding that the day is being marked by over 143 countries of the world.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the consumable food, the air and water, including the climate all come from nature, hence the need for people to be protective of their environment.  Hear him," yet these are exceptional times in which nature is sending message to us. To care for ourselves, we must care for nature. It's time to wake up, to raise our voices and build a better environment for our people. This world Environment day is time for bringing nature back to our lives. Global challenges like climate, the unprecedented loss of biodiversity and the spread of devastating pandemics are sending a clear message. It's time to fix our broken relationship with nature. As the world emerges from the COVID-19 crisis, it's more important than ever to build a more resilient society.  The post 2020 global biodiversity frame-work will play a vital role in creating a more sustainable future". He added.

Dr Njoku also disclosed that  nature that sustains both mental and physical well-being of individuals in managing health threats occasioned by climate change.

BREAKING: 2Baba Shot Dead In Rivers State

A notorious cult leader and the prime suspect in the brutal murder of the late Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashim, in the state, Gift Okpara, popularly referred to as 2Baba, has been reportedly killed in a police-led major security raid. The police and other security agencies were said to have conducted land and aerial raids at the identical hideout of the Iceland cult leader and his gang at Idu-Ekpeye in Ahoada East local government area of Rivers on Saturday, February 17. According to  The Nation , the Iceland cult leader was reportedly feared dead after the operation.   Recall that in September 2023, the late DPO was ambushed and captured by the cult group led by 2Baba in the Odiemudie community, Ahoada East LGA.   2Baba and his gang then took the DPO to the forest, where they killed him and dismembered his body. The cultists then filmed him. Another source, Obi, said he saw no less than 15 vehicles and an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) during the operation.

After the mass, the reception which was at Munic Classic Hotel where all dignitaries were entertained, Amb Charles Nwonye stayed briefly and left to visit and consult with the Umuada Anaedo Forum women at Obi Okpunoegbu to present his political ambition to the women.
