The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife has called for increased investment in Science and Technology, Research and Development.
She made the call while reacting to a motion at Senate plenary on Tuesday.
Speaking on the motion seeking to review the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ekwunife noted that investment in science and technology is critical in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
She emphasized that Nigeria has the best brains in the Science and Technology sector, and that with the right investment the sector can make products which can aid the nation's response to the pandemic.
According to Senator Ekwunife, investment into Science, Technology, Innovation and Research sector value chain will reduce our capital flight from medical tourism to other countries, and enhance the nation's ability to respond to both present and future health challenges.
She prayed the Senate to take steps towards providing a conducive environment for the agencies under the Science and Technology Ministry to enhance their contribution to national development as well as enable them fully realize their core mandate.
