Metuh Jets out to UK for Medical Treatment

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has departed the country for medical treatment of his protracted spinal cord ailment. The former PDP spokesman was sighted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Wednesday evening on crutches, accompanied by some family members and close associates. Reprieve came to Metuh following December 16, Appeal Court judgement annulling his conviction by Justice Okon Abang on the grounds of bias, consequent upon which Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court, on December 24, granted him bail, and ordered the release of his international passport for a period of 45 days to travel within and outside the jurisdiction of the court. The National President of Ndiakwu Otolo Nnewi, Hon Jude Osumouh has restated the readiness of his community to officially open its ultra modern hall and event complex on the 31st of December 2020. 2023 Presidency: Ndigbo should put their house in order- George Moghalu

The Managing Director (MD) of National Inland Water Ways (NIWA) Chief George Moghalu has called on Ndigbo to work hard in their bid towards ascending the presidency, in 2023. TREATMENT AND CARE FOR VICTIMS OF GUNSHOT ACT 2017: WHAT THE LAW SAYS

The Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017 was enacted precisely on the 29th of December 2017. It provides for compulsory treatment and care for gunshot victims. The Act stipulates that persons with gunshot wounds are to be received for immediate and adequate treatment by any hospital in Nigeria with or without initial monetary deposit and also without a Police report. The law however states that, It shall be the duty of any hospital that receives or accepts any person with a gunshot wound to report the fact to the nearest police station within two (2) hours of commencement of treatment. And upon receipt of the aforesaid report, the Police shall immediately commence investigation with a view to determining the circumstances under which the person was shot.The Police may not receive any person with gunshot wounds from the hospital for the purposes of investigation unless and until the Chief Medical Director of the hospital certifies him fit and no longer in dire n...

Army kill 38 bandits, recover arms in Zamfara, Katsina forests – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that the Troops of the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI has killed scores of armed bandits in separate operations conducted in Katsina and Zamfara States. This was stated in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General John Eneche Gen Eneche said that the operations in Katsina State included an airstrike executed on Tuesday after intelligence reports indicated that a group of bandits, armed with high calibre weapons, had rustled some cattle and attacked commuters along the Batsari-Jibia Road. Four Houses Destroyed in Anambra Community Crisis, Indigenes Beg Obiano to Intervene

At least four houses have been destroyed in Nawfia community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State following crisis allegedly instigated by some influential members of the community. Indigenes of the community have called on the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano and the commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang to investigate the crisis, with a view to meting appropriate punishment to those behind it. African leaders have been called upon to begin to respect the fundamental rights of their citizens to halt the increasing human rights abuses by leaders in the continent. Yakubu assumes office as INEC Chairman

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on Thursday assumed office for a second term as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC. Yakubu had arrived to a rousing reception by INEC headquarters staff and guests at about 11:20 am and went into a closed-door session with the national commissioners. Thereafter, at a brief ceremony to formally take over affairs of the commission, Yakubu pledged to discharge his mandate without bias. He said he had steadily strengthened the institutional capacity of INEC to carry on with its mandate even in the absence of a Chairman. Israeli authorities are set to unveil previously off-limits structures within King Herod’s palace-fortress Herodium, which the tyrannical Roman-era leader interred as his enormous burial plot. The Federal High Court in Lagos has upheld a landmark $1.7billion arbitral award in favour of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Co. (NPDC) Ltd against the Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nig. Ltd and Atlantic Energy Brass Development Ltd. Justice A. Faji dismissed Atlantic Energy’s application to set aside the Arbitral Award of March 5, 2020. Justice A. We have reduced cost of data by 50% ― Pantami

The Minister of the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, says the administration has reduced the current cost of data by 50%. The Minister who revealed this in a statement on Thursday explained that the reduction was made possible in line with his directives to the service providers through the industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC. According to a statement from the Minister, this followed measures put in place by the Ministry to significantly reduce the average cost of data at an incremental rate.   He explained the average cost of 1GB data was reduced from N1,000 cost of January 2020 to N487.18 in November 2021. Pension Fund Trial: Maina slumps in court

The former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abulrasheed Maina, who is facing money laundering charges, on Thursday, collapsed before trial Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Maina slumped shortly after the court resumed proceedings in the 12-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him and his firm, Common Input Property and Investment Limited. Maina had on Wednesday after the EFCC closed its case with nine witnesses, secured permission of the court to enter a no-case-submission to the charges against him. However, when the case was called on Thursday, Maina’s lawyer, Mr. Anayo Adibe, told the court that his client would not be able to proceed with his application. Court Remands Ali Ndume in Prison Custody.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, ordered Sen. Ali Ndume be remanded in Kuje Prison following Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman, defunct Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT)’s refusal to appear for his trial. Justice Okon Abang gave the order when Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, failed to file a formal application to show cause why he should not forfeit the bail bond of N500 million deposed to,  on May 5th to stand as surety for Maina.   The EFCC’s Lawyer, Mohammed Abubakar, had, on Nov. 18, asked the court to make an order for the lawmaker to forfeit the bail bond since Maina, who he stood as surety for, had jumped bail.   Abubakar also asked the court to revoke Maina’s bail and issue a warrant of arrest on him.   Although the court granted the applications by the EFCC on Maina, it gave Ndume an opportunity to appear with his legal representation and adjourned until Nov. 23.

SIX DIE, ELEVEN INJURED IN ONITSHA FATAL CRASH

Six people killed and eleven injured in a fatal crash involving a mini white  bus belonging to CDO transport Company with registration number BGT 313  XA and a white truck without a registration number recorded at 1710hrs this evening 22nd November, 2020 at Niwelle Junction along Nteje - Onitsha express way. Eyewitness report reaching us indicates that the crash occurred as a result of excessive speeding leading to loss of control of the bus and crashing eventually.
